The world of chess witnessed history on December 12, 2024 when Chennai-born chess prodigy Gukesh Dommaraju shocked chess enthusiasts, fans and not to mention the defending world champion Ding Liren himself, as he became the youngest person ever to win the World Chess Championship at the age of 18. 

18th World Champion at 18.

The prior record of the youngest World Chess Champion belonged to Gary Kasparov who was 22 when he won the title in Moscow in November 1985 by beating Anatoly Karpov.
